We have made several trips to the Lone Star State and each time we leave we ask ourselves why we don’t just stay. We have loved the few pockets that we have visited and we know that we will be making more trips in the future. So for now, we’ll leave you with this starter list of the places we recommend until we can get back down south to explore more.
HoneyTree Farms | Fredericksburg
We’ve stayed in many of their properties—you can’t go wrong. They are all situated just a few minutes drive from downtown Fredericskburg.
Njem Haus | Fredericksburg
Best for a group. One of our favorites for the incredible backyard.
If you’re visiting Fredericksburg…
We’ve visited Fredericksburg more than any other place in Texas! The highlights are that there is a very walkable (and shopable) downtown and although there are many restaurants and hundreds of wineries in the surrounding area, the place still keeps maintains its small town southern charm. We’d reccomend Woerner Warehouse Bakery + Cafe for breakfast or lunch, Vaudeville if you’re feeling fancy, and Hondos on Main for more casual dining and live music. There is tons of shops along Main St. but we have always liked beep bopping through FarmHaus Antiques + Design and Blackchalk Home and Laundry.

This is a Chip and Joanna stunner from season 3 of Fixer Upper.
The Halet House | Waco
This home has one of the most gorgeous interiors of any home we’ve filmed and a fun mural for photos in the back.
Waco Container Homes | Waco
This is great for those who want to try out tiny living while visiting! If you like it, you can buy one yourself!
The Morrow House | Waco
We’ve never stayed here but we’d like to! It’s another one shown on Fixer Upper. We love the old charm this cottage style home has.
Lake Waco Marina Houseboat (As Seen on Fixer Upper) | Waco
This is another that is new to us. We are hoping to get back to Waco to try this place out. It would be a neat experience to sleep on the water!
If you’re visiting Waco…
Everybody and their brother has probably heard of Waco by now with the growling popularity Chip and Joanna Gaines. Although we love what they do and thoroughly enjoyed visiting the Silos on our visit, there are some other awesome things to do in Waco, too! Definitely check out the many shops and bakery at The Silos and when you’re ready to venture off of Magnolia territory, check out Fabled Bookshop & Cafe. You can also take a short drive to visit The Branch Davidian Compound if that’s something you’d be interested in.
The Hammock House | Round Mountain
We loved this place! The hammocks are fun, the interior is beautiful, and the outdoor bathtub is so relaxing. We highly recommend it!
The Nest | Glenn Rose
We’ve never been here but imagine it would be magical to climb those stairs into a giant nest from your secluded patio. We hope to visit someday!
Skyhouse Guadalupe | New Braunfels
South of Austin before you get to San Antonio is this amazing property. We’ve never been but hope to visit soon!
Lake Travis Waterfront Retreat | Austin
We recently visited Lake Travis and it was a beauty! We’d love to go back to visit and stay here.
East Side Beehive | Austin
